2 Timothy 2:2

2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. (NKJV)

Luke 9:23

23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. (NKJV)

What is required to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?

To put it simply; it is a decision, a direction, a denial, the death (of oneself daily) and a devotion to follow our Teacher, our Redemer, our King, our Lord - Jesus Christ, our Rock - the name above ALL names! (Luke 9:23),(Philippians 2:9-11)

Evangelism and Discipleship

Our passion is to make disciples of Jesus Christ, who go on to make more disciples who go on to make even more disciples. When we first arrived in Costa Rica, we were so excited to see the lost come to the feet of Christ. It is an honor and privilege to witness someone come to Jesus. It is not our responsibility, however, to save the lost. It is a direct command from Jesus Christ to make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20) and we take this seriously. It is our passion. We cannot make disciples of people who are not followers of Christ, therefore, sharing the gospel with non-believers is an integral part of the ministry as well. Seeing others grow in Christ and make Him the center of their lives is the heart of our ministry.

We currently serve in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica in a small town called Villarreal. Matt is working with Pastor Phil McKay and Calvary Chapel to train the leaders in discipleship with the goal that they will then go on to disciple the church, who will then reach out to the community. Matt finished his committment with Pastor Nelson Campos and the First Baptist Church this past October 2010 in training its leaders in (re)producing disciples. By the time Matt completed his committment with First Baptist, around half the church was either making disciples or being discipled themselves. Praise God for His strength and please pray for long lasting fruit.

In July 2010, a new ministry opportunity was presented to us and we accepted. (Please click on the link: Potter's Field Kids for more details). The parachurch organization is called "Potter's Field Ministries" and God has given us this very important assignment to start discpling children and pre-teens who will then be part of this ministry. We were very excited to get started and began in September 2010 . We started this program from the ground up praising the Lord we had a model to follow from a neighboring country, El Salvador, which had already implemented this very same program. 23 children enrolled in the (pilot) program one day each week and we also had the privledge of having a Bible Club open to the whole neighborhood (where 50+ children attended) once a week also. Please continue to be in prayer as we have started the full program (4 days a week) with Jesus Christ as our focus and allow the Holy Spirit to guide and intercede for us during this process. Thanks!

All of this however, is secondary to the primary ministry God has given us which is to glorify  Him by making sure we are true disciples ourselves. We then believe our next responsibility is to nurture our marriage and our family.

Brooke also homeschool's our three children. This, along with caring for our home and being a ministry support to Matt are her main ministry roles.
